Sales. Sales. Sales.
![Sales is an essential life skill | Experienced in sales? Job vacancy available sales position](https://attystela.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/attystela.com-blog-post-jpg.jpg)
I’ve been noticing a lot of creators lately wherein they talk about “sales” as a “life skill”. Do you agree it’s a LIFE skill? (please feel free to comment your objections or simply your thoughts below).
Three things for this post.
I would like to talk about:
- Sales as a life skill.
- Job vacancy – I am looking for a sales specialist for a project. Details will be posted down below.
- I am also posting here a FREE sample template application letter and a FREE sample resume for those who want or need them. They are in MS Word format so you can easily download, edit and make them yours.
Onto the first time above. Sales as a life skill — We often think of “sales” as confined to the business world. We imagine slick executives closing deals, telemarketers with smooth scripts, or pushy retail workers upselling us at the counter. But recently, I’ve noticed a growing number of content creators, authors, and influencers talking about sales being a crucial life skill.
At first glance, it might seem like an exaggeration. After all, most of us aren’t trying to sell products or services daily. But if you really think about it… deeper… it starts to make sense. 🤔
What is “Selling”… at its Core?
At its heart, sales is about persuasion, influence, and building relationships.
Let’s break down why these matter well beyond business transactions:
- Persuasion: We persuade all the time. Whether it’s convincing your partner to try that new restaurant, negotiating chores with your kids, or pitching a project idea to your boss, persuasion is key to getting what we want or need.
- Influence: Being influential isn’t about being manipulative. It’s about understanding people, their motivations, and tailoring your communication to build trust and connection. This helps us navigate social circles, make our voices heard, and inspire others towards action.
- Relationship-Building: Strong relationships form the foundation of a happy life – personal and professional. Sales techniques that focus on genuine rapport, finding common ground, and addressing another person’s needs can strengthen bonds in all areas.
Sales Skills in the Wild
Let’s look at some real-life examples of how sales skills translate into everyday situations:
- Job Interviews: A job interview is essentially a sales pitch. You’re selling yourself, your skills, and your value to the company.
- Networking: Whether you’re meeting people at a conference or a casual party, you need to sell your potential value, whether it’s as a future collaborator, client, or friend.
- Salary Negotiations: Getting the salary you deserve requires persuasive communication, knowing your worth, and building a compelling case.
- Difficult Conversations: Handling confrontations, disagreements, or asking for help are all situations where knowing how to express your perspective, de-escalate tension, and find compromise are skills developed through a sales mindset.
The Power of Saying “Yes” to Sales
Embracing sales as a life skill means leaning into areas that might bring discomfort. It’s about developing active listening, identifying needs and providing solutions, and handling objections with grace. This is transformative personal growth and puts you ahead of the curve.
